8/14/2012 My Daily Reiki Practice...What does your daily Reiki practice look like? Many of you have been asking this, so here's the answer: My daily Reiki practice never looks exactly the same, but there are several elements that show up every time in a special order, too. First thing in the morning, I step out on the balcony to stretch a bit and take a few deep breaths of the fresh morning air. And I look around and enjoy the bits of nature that are visible even in the middle of the city here in Frankfurt. For instance, there’s a beautiful chestnut tree that I love behind our apartment building (my beloved grandfather - a forest ranger - used to send me animals made of chestnuts and matchsticks by mail when I was little). And then I get a glimpse of a gorgeous portion of the Frankfurt skyline: the MesseTurm (Trade Fair Tower) with its lit pyramid top in particular. I totally enjoy the view every single morning, as it shows up differently depending on weather and season. Next, I do a little energy clearing through a mini smudging ceremony - a shamanic practice. This serves to release any negative energy that may have been attached to me or the space in which I sit down for the distance Reiki session. If I don't feel like smudging, I will use Reiki symbols for clearing, or a visualization exercise. After that, I am ready to take my candle inside, put on some soothing Reiki music, sit down on my meditation pillow, and open the energetic connection to the participants of my distance Reiki program. I apply the distance healing symbol by drawing it in the air, and then reciting each of the names three times, each name followed by reciting the mantra that goes with the distance healing symbol three times. I say a little prayer, inviting cosmic helpers to join the session and help my ego step out of the way for the Reiki energy to flow freely through me. After all, it is not my energy that I send out, it is the unlimited universal life force that I have learned to channel. Where do my hands go during all of this? I hold them in front of me, palms facing each other, at a slight distance. Sometimes I hold a gem stone that feels right, sometimes my “Book of good thoughts”, in which I also record the names of the participants. What I always do is to visualize everyone on my list in the space between the palms of my hands. Wait a second, you may be saying, that’s all? How do you know it works? First of all, here's what clients are saying... As for myself, I can feel several things: as soon as I open the connection to the journey participants, the top of my head begins to tingle. When I hold my hands as described, I can feel energy flowing between them. If I’m just holding my hands across form each other, no stones or book in between, this energy feels like a kind of resistance between my hands. Think of an invisible ball that makes it almost impossible to put your hands together. Depending on what I am working on, I can feel a particular chakra or all of them light up with energy in my own body. It either gets warm, or I can sense a sort of energetic rotation in that body part. At the end of the session, I thank the higher selves of my participants and cosmic helpers and set the intention to keep the energy I activated flowing for the remainder of the day. Finally, I consciously close the direct energetic connection by blowing it out of my hands, just like you would blow out a candle. To me, this is a beautiful start of the day that allows me to assist those who partake in the journey in balancing out their lives through the transmission of the universal life force energy called Reiki. It also balances myself. The rest of the day I do my best to practice the Reiki precepts for a balanced, joyful life: This way, Reiki accompanies me throughout the day - all the way to another 10 minutes of Reiki to ground myself again before I go to sleep.
